Urinalysis

Well, I received a phone call this morning at 0245 (2:45 am) informing me that I (and the rest of the class) needed to report to the company area at 0415 to pee in a plastic bottle. I was a first time go. Sometimes I have a hard time going when I'm under observation, but after 3 cups of coffee, a glass of OJ, a glass of water, and 2 canteens of water... there was no stopping it. I could have filled 25 urinalysis bottles.

The US Army... We pee more before 9:00 am than most people pee all day.

DSL is up... for now.

Now that the Internet is working again (for now), I can update the Blog. This week was mostly inprocessing. We had some classes. I received many shots, had x-rays taken of my teeth, had my sight and hearing tested, etc, etc. On Thursday night we did night land nav. I was a first time go. Friday morning we did day land nav. I was also a first time go on this part. The land nav course out here is has some pretty steep terrain. It was challenging. Also, it's near the waste treatment plant. So, you can sniff your way back to the start point. They cut us loose at 1200 on Friday. It gave me the opportunity to get some things done. The big highlights from Friday on have been as follows...

 Laundry
 Having "sew on" rank put on my patrol caps
 Turning in uniforms to be pressed
 Drove to Rolla (Nothing to see)
 Ate at the DFAC (Mess Hall) twice
 Shined 3 pairs of boots
 Continued to shape and shave my beret
 Cleaned my room a bit
 Did a little reading ahead for tomorrows class on Military Justice

I'm living on the edge.

Busy here at FLW

Well, in-processing is going smoothly. Not too much to report. My room is pretty nice. I'll report back later with more information. I'm getting up around 0300-0330 these days, that kind of sucks, but that's just how it is.

Leaking... My Roof is Leaking!

Well, Ivan is here. Ivan is in my house. My roof is leaking 3 times as bad as it was before the roofers got to work. Anne talked to them and someone is coming out right now with tarps. They say it's because something's not done yet. Well, I hope they get done soon. I'm really not going to want to deal with this from FLW. Anne's strong and will be able to handle everything, but I still feel bad that I have to be gone during this renovation and repair time.

Getting ready... 2 days and a wake-up till I go.

Weight: 195.2 lbs... I'm getting closer to my table weight. I just need to stay on course.

Last night I ran the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk with some people from my office. It was a good run, but took me more time than usual to complete. There were a lot of people to get through in the first mile... Thousands and thousands of people to dodge and slide past.

I'm at home today. Yesterday was my last day at work until I get back in February. So, I'm going to make my usual trip down to Ft McPherson to spend money on uniforms and gear. I need to pack like a fiend today too.

I've tinkered with the page format a little. I added some bullet points and increased the width of the black margin space to the right. I've also added a few links. Also, please note that the first link is for you to e-mail me. So, do it!

Back From Drill

Well, drill was interesting. I got a lot of good information from a 2LT who had just returned from EOBC. There was a lot going on at the unit that didn't really involve me, but it was good to be there and get a peek at the unit before heading out to Fort Leonard Wood on Friday. Oh yeah... most likely the remnants of Ivan will make the going slow.

On the fitness front... they have a weight room at the unit. I utilized it and discovered that my one rep max has dropped substantially. I was not able to get 275 lbs. 6 months ago I could do that with ease. Oh well, I'll try to get more studly while I'm at FLW. Me and the other new LT's ran 3 miles on Saturday evening. I ran right by a restaurant called Wild Wing. We have one in Marietta. It's my favorite place for wings and beer. So, it's nice to know that when I'm in Augusta I have a place to eat that I like. On the other hand. I shouldn't be eating and drinking like that. But... when I get back from FLW, I could only eat there when I go to drill. That would be reasonable. Oh... and I weighed in this morning at 197.0 lbs. 3 lbs to go!

While I was at work today I had thought of stuff to add to the blog, but I can't think of it now. Oh well, it must not have been important.

Still Blogging Away...

Well, I'm still tinkering with this page. I'm trying to get that Drudge Report look.

I've added some advertisements to the page. I figure what the heck... Maybe I'll make $2.00 a month. What's really funny is that earlier I mentioned that I wasn't happy with my Timex Bodylink HR Monitor. The Google ad thingamajig searches your page and finds relevant content and chooses the ads to show visitors. So, this morning I had a bunch of ads for the HR Monitor I would not recommend. On the other hand... I also put up another banner that has items that I actually recommend such as books and CD's. So if you look at those you're seeing it because I think it's worth owning. Oh... the National Guard link is just there because I think people should join.

On to other things... The roofers were kicking butt when I got home after work. They had the roof off and I guess they'll have it back on tonight or tomorrow. It will be nice to be back in my bedroom. However, I will have to wait till Monday because I will be at my first drill with the 878th Engineer Battalion. I go to this drill and then I'm of to EOBC the next weekend.

Speaking of EOBC... as I have mentioned before, I have to weigh no more than 194 lbs when I get there 9 days from now. I'm still working on it. I didn't weigh in today because my wife made Thai last night and I ate a little too much and didn't want to be discouraged. I'll weigh in again Monday morning. I expect to do a little PT with my fellow new 2LT's Saturday.

Thursday, September 09, 2004

Not much going on.

I finally got under 198.0 lbs. I weighed in this morning at 196.0 lbs. I just need to keep up the PT and watch those calories.

I'm having a hard time getting my paperwork together. I keep calling to make an appointment to get a 201 file setup with everything required for OBC, but I may just have to show up down there.

The roofers are supposed to get on it today. The weather should stay nice for a few days, so I am feeling positive now.

Wednesday, September 08, 2004

Well... I 'm continuing to be slack.

Let's see... I have lots to do to get ready for EOBC. It's just not getting done fast enough. I keep procrastinating. You know, I need to find my shot records. I don't really want to get 50 shots when I get to FLW. I just need to get my paperwork together. I need to renew my car tag, so that means I need to go get my emissions tested. I need to drop off and pick up uniforms from the alteration shop and pick up more from the cleaners. I need a haircut... and lots of other stuff.

The contractors are starting to really worry me. I think we may have hired a real dud. We should have 3 good days with very little or no rain starting today or tomorrow. So I'm hoping that the roof gets done. After we get done with this part of the project... er... I mean house, we will definitely do some very detailed drawings and do a lot of research on the contractor. References will be key.

I don't have much to report regarding my physical activity. I didn't do any PT yesterday. I set my alarm clocks for going to the gym this morning, but that didn't happen. So, I'll have to hit it tonight. Yesterday I weighed 198.0 and I weigh the same this morning. I guess I can look on the bright side that at least I'm not gaining weight.

What else? Oh yeah, I need to learn more about how to manipulate this blog stuff. I'm not too interested in learning HTML. I'll have to do some research. Maybe I'll buy one of those "For Dummies" books. I still need to purchase a digital camera. I need to do more research on that too... Oh, and I need to return my HR monitor. Never buy a Timex Bodylink hr Monitor. The GPS portion of the system works well, but I have had major problems with the HR monitor. I've looked on line and it seams that I am not the only one who has had problems with this unit.

I'm done rambling for now.

Wait... here's another funny picture.

Tough 10K

Today I did the US 10K Classic. It's a tough one but it was cloudy with a nice breeze. I improved my time by about 4 minutes from last year. I did it in 1:03:47. Not a fast time for a 10K, but this one is a killer. I have knocked a few minutes off every time I've run it. I'm hoping to break an hour next year. If I coald get into the low 50's on this course, I would be pleased.

On the weight and food consumption front... I ate quite a bit over the last couple of days. I'll weigh in tomorrow morning.

Today so far I have had:

- 2 cups of coffee - 100 calories (you know... the H&H)
- 2 - 12 oz cans of Coke C2 - 140 calories (free at the finishline)
- protein shake at home - 250 calories

I'll check in again later with some PU and SU stuff... maybe.

Anne located the files for me.

Anne read the Blog and informed me that the files were right in front of me had I looked a little harder. I just wanted to make sure that every one new that it was not Anne's fault that I couldn't find those files. I say again, it was not Anne's fault I could not find the files.

Thank you for your attention and this concludes this attempt to set the record straight.

I'm living on the edge... you can't stop me... don't even try.

Well... let's see what's going on so far today....

Woke up, then the contractors showed up and stated tearing the front of the house up. This is a good thing. Anne and I went to Home Depot to get new locks for the sliding glass doors. We also looked at paint colors and bought one of those solar powered outdoor lights. We looked at some appliance, blinds and countertops. We did all of that last night at the Expo Design Center (Fancy Home Depot). I am living on the edge!

On the fitness front my weight is essentially the same. I weighed in at 198.4 when I got up this morning. I always weigh myself first thing to stay consistent. I hit the gym after having a rough time getting the new locks to work with our existing patio doors. I needed to file down the latch part a little to get it to work. You'd have to see it. I couldn't find my files. I had just bought them not to long ago. Anne said she saw them somewhere which means she put them away somewhere...

Anyway, at the gym I hit the Stairmaster thing for 30 minutes (400 calories, or so it said) and then did some squats, leg curls, calf raises etc... then I hit my biceps a bit. Of course the neck machine was utilized as well.

Now I have to jump in the shower, shave and throw on a suit and tie. My buddy Mike is getting hitched a 1600 today.

Comments

I'm not sure if I have the comments thing working correctly. I've gotten some but only one is showing up. I'll get it figured out eventually. Keep the comments coming.

Here... comment on this.

More Blog... regarding um... the blog.

I made an adjustment so people can add their comments. So far this blog has mainly been about this blog. I promise, it will become interesting at some point.
OK... Here' my blog in action...

Again, I slept on the couch last night. Not because my wife is angry... because of my roof. We hired a roofer to... well, put a new roof on the house. He started with the master bedroom. Which would be fine, but there was a little rot in the beams and a lot of carpenter ants!

We moved the bed and all of the other furniture out of the master bedroom. Anne slept in the guest room. The bed in there is too small for the two of us (in my opinion) so I hit the couch.

Next Item

As some of you may know. I am an architect and a newly commissioned ARNG 2LT. I am leaving for Engineer Officer Basic Course (EOBC) in a couple of weeks. When I get there I will have to weigh-in and be less than 194 lbs... Or the dreaded Tape Test will be administered. I want to avoid that. So for the next couple of weeks I will be posting my weight, what I'm eating and what exercise I do.

So with no further adieu...

Weight: 198.6

I'll report back later on my eating and PT (That's Physical Training for you non-army types).

In the beginning...

I'm taking a stab at this blogging thing.

Thinking of a caption... thinking... thinking...
