War isn't tough enough... we need to introduce Dracula into the mix?

Hye Times...

The Romanians have moved out from the KAF MWR Internet room and out into the fight. One the FOB's I went to recently had a platoon of Romanian Soldiers. Their PL happened to be Armenian too. I keep running into Armenians over here. There was a KBR guy at another FOB from the Republic of Georgia. He stopped me when he saw my name tape. He was also Armenian.

Hello From Zabul... or Zabol

I am now out in Zabul Province. I'm here temporarily to check on construction projects in the area. I flew to a remote FOB before getting to my current location. That was an interesting couple of days. Thanks Taliban! The FOB I was flying to, was under attack (as usual for this place). Therefore, the bird I was on went to another FOB first, to drop off some supplies and mail until my destination cooled down. I'm not sure why there was a guy in a bunny suit on the LZ at the other FOB... but here's the proof.

I eventually made it to the remote FOB and we were only under "slight attack" (said a Sergeant) as we landed and unloaded the bird. It was like that for the 2 days I was there. Incoming mortars make a funny sound as they fly over your head. The sound of the impact isn't quite as humorous.

Free Black Hawk Rides

Ok... I've been flying all over the place lately, and I've been doing most of it in Chinooks. While it's a cool ride, the view isn't all that great, unless you are positioned properly towards the rear. A Black Hawk is much cooler. The views are outstanding. Every once in a while, I actually get that voice in my head that says "Dude! You're getting paid to do this! This rules!" Typically, this voice is then beaten up by several of the other voices in my head. Like the voice I hear when I have to... never mind.

These photos do not adequately depict just how incredibly awesome it is to fly in a Black Hawk through the mountains of Afghanistan.

And... some flat stuff.

If you look really closely... you can see all the goat turds. I love this place. I think I'll move the whole family here. Flying all over Southern Afghanistan has given me a feel for what terraforming Mars might be like.

Engineers on a mission.... and yes.. that is a French Engineer on my right. It turns out that there are some cool French people after all.

Ok.. here's the update

I am no longer in Uruzgon Province. I am now back at KAF permanently... well sort of. I've been traveling throughout Kandahar and Zabul Provinces in Humvees and Chinooks in order to inspect construction projects. So, that's the latest. My stuff is at KAF, but I'm not always with my stuff.

I saw Doc and the other half of the team that was down at Lashkar Gah. They were at KAF. It was really good to see them again.

That's it for now.
