Fighting Black Kings
| Sunday I watched a movie called Fighting Black Kings. /"> >">It's a 1976 documentary about Kyokushin Karate(and other types too). Don't let the video cover fool you. This documentary was 80% good and only 20% cheese. All in all worth watching... If you can get past the 1976 Bruce Lee stuff and all the dubbed in kiais (screaming like Howard Dean). Hey it was the 70's. Can you guys tell I'm getting psyched about karate again? I'm a Shotokan Karate of America(SKA) guy. /"> >">Maybe, I'll actually get my butt to practice on Wednesday. |

post a commentThis documentary took me back to the days that I was studying, and practicing Go Ju Ryu Karate. I could feel, again, what it takes to be fully dedicated to the martial arts, and make it part of your life.
I think everyone will see this documentary from their own perspective, and glean their own inner knowledge. There is much to be gleaned. For me, much of the inner knowledge was related to watching very dedicated karatekas train, but when it came time to actually compete, then is when we began to see some of the actual strengths, and weaknesses. It's like life, in microcosm. We don't know ourselves, until we're actually tested in the fight.
