Romanian Soldiers Love The Internet

Yes, it is true. There are Romanian Soldiers here at KAF. I don't know what they do. Maybe they guard the computers and phones we all use to communicate with the folks back home. They are always here, at the computer room, in platoon sized elements. They are usually quite loud... then again, we "Ugly Americans" are probably louder.

A bunch of us went up to the boardwalk (yes, they built a boardwalk here) to watch the Kandahar Cup Hockey tournament final match. There's a hockey rink here. No ice, just a bunch of guys running around with sticks chasing a ball. We were having a good time making fun of the Canadian team, and cheering on the American team. Then we found out that both teams were Canadian. So I imagine that people were making fun of us. It was still a good time.

We went to the range yesterday. I'm not an eagle eye expert, but I'm feeling very confidant in my ability to reach out an touch someone with my M4. Going to the range here is a lot more fun than it is back in the states. You can shoot safely without all the safety Nazis jumping down your throat. It's more relaxed, just as safe, and it's easy to concentrate on shooting.

I've been lifting weights a lot lately. I'm not losing weight, but I am getting a little slimmer and a little stronger.

As you can tell, life here at KAF is pretty chilled out for the moment. We are getting our equipment together piece by piece and it may be a little longer than we had expected for the push out to our respective FOB's. I can't honestly say I mind. Each day I am here is a day off the deployment without being blown-up or shot at. There will be plenty of time for that this year and I'm not in a hurry. Although, I would like to get to where I'm supposed to go, if only to stop living out of my duffel bags in a giant tent with 50 guys. They say we'll have one man rooms in the B-Huts, where I'm going.

My computer time is up. There is a Romanian here with an AK who needs to get on MySpace or something. So that's the update.

Sounds like you're using your wait time well. I need to get back into using our Bowflex - but I've gotten way lazy.

Hopefully the spring/almost summer weather is not too bad. I bet those mountains can have some real humdingers of electrical storms at times.

Statement
We want to bring to the attention of the Romanian Government, Ministry of Defense, media and, not least, public opinion, the situation of the army soldiers and volunteers mark Romania, ex-soldiers employed on contract basis in fact those who are in a position future unemployment.

Although the activities they carry out this category of persons to serve the Romanian state and its citizens, both in peacetime and in war, are particularly important, soldiers and volunteers are not recognized mark certain rights which their colleagues from military service benefits.

These soldiers are treated as citizens of lower rank, although the years have worked well in serving the state.

Does this seem fair and right that after 20 years of military service, after so many years the rigors of military life, to leave the system as if we were not there?

Does it seem fair that after I suffered a major period of economic transformation, the profound changes in society, to enter fully discover another change?

Thus, soldiers and volunteers mark not recognize certain rights are:

- Age and graduated as a volunteer soldier, is not considered old in military service;

- Maximum age to which soldiers and volunteers graduations can be maintained in activity can not exceed the age of 40 years, according to par. (2), Art. 35 of Law no. 384/2006 on the status of soldiers and volunteers mark.

We would put the above inequalities and grant the following rights:

- Length of service as a soldier and volunteered to be considered old graduated in military service and to take into account in determining pension under the Law no. 164/2001 on state military pensions;

- Establishing the legal retirement age for military personnel as the maximum age limit up to which soldiers and volunteers graduations can be kept in employment, except that, after the age of 40 years, soldiers and graduations volunteers wishing to continue their work Annual tests are required to promote physical fitness and adequate military military specialty they are employed;

- Making payments compesatorii in case of dismissal, like civilian staff redundant.

Please allow a minimum of attention to this category of military personnel, because the profession is based on the total reports of discipline, loyalty, responsibility and readiness to execute orders, asking her strength of character, resistance to multiple and prolonged effort and renunciation and the personal sacrifices ..
Hoping that we'll help you move these inequities, thank you.
